Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers have become increasingly popular as a means to help reverse the changes associated with our battle with the effects of time. Because the ultimate goal is to have the skin return to its original youthful state, dermal fillers can cause a more natural appearance than surgical face lifts. Dermal fillers are being used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, raise scar depressions, enhance lips for added “plump”, and are excellent to replace soft tissue volume loss.

As skin ages, the dermis gradually loses its major constituents:

  • Collagen: the major support protein for skin
  • Elastin: allows skin to stay firm and resist wrinkles
  • Hyaluronic Acid: traps water, which adds volume and shape to skin

Dermal Fillers in Joliet, IL

Here at The National Center for Integrative Medicine® you can find a one stop shop to meet all your dermatologic needs. There are a variety of dermal fillers available. Some of the most popular include collagen based fillers, hyaluronic acid based fillers, poly lactic acid based fillers and calcium hydroxyl apatite fillers.

All types of dermal fillers can improve the youthful appearance of facial skin for a more vibrant, refreshed look. Fillers behave differently, including how long the results will last. It is important to note, there is no specific filler ideal for any part of the face to achieve optimal results. For instance, lips tolerate fillers differently than the cheeks, and not all fillers can be injected into the lips. Because of this, here at The National Center for Integrative Medicine® we research which dermal fillers work best in the area you desire to enhance and treat.

The dermal filler chosen will provide excellent cosmetic results, remain in the skin for a significant period of time, and is completely safe when administered correctly. Local anesthetics are used to decrease the discomfort caused by the injections. A thin needle is used to inject the dermal filler into the desired area. The results are immediate and can last from 6 – 9 months and in some cases up to 1 year. Location can affect the duration of results, for example, fillers tend to provide results that last significantly less time in the lips, compared to nasolabial folds. Collagen based products typically provide the shortest duration of results. Hyluronic acid based fillers tend to endure for longer, with effects usually lasting from six months to one year. You will be able to return to normal activities immediately.

At the National Center for Integrative Medicine®, our highest goal is your well-being. We’re not satisfied until you look your ultimate best.
